My kids don't watch Doraemon
Quite often, I hear moms discussing how their kids watch Doraemon all day.. And it never fails to surprise me as my kids don't watch it.. When my daughter was young, the only channel I let her watch was CBeebies.. It was a lovely, age appropriate, kid friendly channel that taught pre schoolers many things like numbers, colours, good habits and behaviour, making stuff.. When the channel went off air during the digitalisation time, we felt as if we had lost our dear friend..
Wonderful shows like Mister Maker (he makes various interesting art and craft items, some under one minute!), Charlie and Lola (Lola is an imaginative kid and her brother helps her learn things), In the Night Garden (characters live in a magical forest and the shows helps the kids to relax and doze off like how iggle piggle goes to sleep at the end), Show Me Show Me (explore two items via videos, songs and also read stories from a book), I Can Cook (children prepare simple dishes and also learn about how the ingredients grow), Teletubbies (characters have TV screens embedded in their abdomens and speak gibberish), Fimbles (magical characters who get a fimbling feeling), Little Robots (a world of assorted little robots), Numberjacks (animated characters that solve problems using simple mathematical concepts), Nuzzle and Scratch (two puppets who muddle their way trying to solve problems), Zigby (a zebra who always trots into trouble), Penelope K, by the way (answers a general knowledge question through research and talking to characters), and so many more opened the doors of creativity and imagination.. Each helped kids to learn about different aspects like how to play with siblings and friends, numbers, shapes, art and craft, etc..
The shows were in English and more often than not, there was no bad or rude character and even if there was, they would have realised their mistake by the end of the show and changed their behaviour.. The children or animals in the shows were well behaved, respected and loved their parents and siblings, didn't talk back or use bad language..
It was a much awarded channel and the programming certainly deserved the accolades.. For a few months, I was showing her the shows on YouTube.. After all, the world is no longer restricted and we can access whatever we want to, at the time that we want..
So now mostly they watch Disney Junior.. Who doesn't love Mickey Mouse and his friends? Other favourites include Sofia the First (an ordinary kind-hearted girl becomes a princess in a magical kingdom and gets an amulet that helps her talk to animals and birds), Jake and the Never Land Pirates (Jake and his friends go on various adventures with the pirate Captain Hook trying to best them), Handy Manny (Manny and his tools repair whatever is broken), Little Einsteins (go all over the world on adventures related to art, set to classical music like Beethoven), Jake from Tomorrowland (Miles and his family live on a spaceship and have futuristic adventures in space), Special Agent Oso (Oso helps children perform tasks, in three steps), DocMcStuffins (Dottie can fix any toy and can speak and sing-dance with them thanks to her magical stethoscope)... And many more..
Many an hour has rolled by when we get carried away into the world "where the magic begins".. We discuss about the shows, what happened, and let our imaginations soar.. I guess by now you would have guessed why my kids don't watch Doraemon.. Do try the magical adventures during the summer vacations.. The worst that could happen is your child could start talking English fluently, slangs and all, with an accent!!
